A carpet knee kicker (sometimes written as “kneekick”) is a tool used by carpet installers to stretch carpet into place during installation. It’s specifically designed for smaller areas like hallways, closets, or stairs where a power stretcher either won’t fit or isn’t necessary.
Here’s how it works:
The tool has a padded end that the installer literally “kicks” with their knee.
The opposite end has teeth or prongs that grip the carpet.
When the installer gives it a firm knee bump, it pushes the carpet forward and stretches it tightly toward the wall or tack strip.
It helps ensure the carpet lays flat and doesn’t wrinkle or buckle.
While it sounds aggressive, the tool is all about precision and control, not brute force. It’s a must-have for finishing edges cleanly or getting a snug fit around tight corners.
